Employment Verification
All Verification of Employment requests are processed through UCPath. The guidelines are here. There are two options
a) Employment Verifier (such as your bank, leasing agent or employer) can access your employment information through The Work Number — a third-party provider for employment and income verification. To use this service, inform your verifier that UC uses The Work Number and provide them with the UC Employer Code (15975).
Note: UCPath does not send data to The Work Number for employees who opted-out from sending their information. Employees who opted out, must refer all verifiers (banks, employers or leasing agents) to UCPath to complete employment and income verifications manually, by email, phone or fax. Email: ucpath@universityofcalifornia.edu ; Phone: 1-855-982-7284 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.); Fax: 1-855-982-2329.
b) Self-verification: To confirm your salary for your records, you can easily download a personal employment summary report through your UCPath account. To do so:
- Log in to UCPath.
- Using the menu at the left, navigate to Employee Actions > Income and Taxes > Verification of Employment.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Generate Summary Report.
- Your summary will be published on UC letterhead, which will include your current employment information and payroll earnings.
Please refer to the guidelines for additional information if you need to submit an inquiry regarding VOE.
Faculty
Berkeley Lab employs persons in one of many different appointment types. Each appointment type has defined terms and conditions of employment. Appointment as Laboratory Faculty Scientist/Engineer or Faculty Senior Scientist/Engineer requires that an individual hold an active University of California (UC) faculty appointment and is considered a dual appointment.
Faculty Salary Administration: UC Faculty Definitions, Faculty Summer Salary, Faculty Salary Updates, and Hiring Faculty at LBL
Shared and Joint Faculty Appointments: definitions of the two types of UC Faculty at the Lab.
Other Faculty Appointments: Visiting Faculty and Visiting Researcher as well as Additional Faculty Titles outside of the UC system.
Individual Asset Report (IAS) to Supplement Exit Checklist
The Lab's Strategic Initiatives Group launched an optional "Individual Asset Status" (IAS) report for departing individuals to support the Lab's Exit Process in 2024. This report pulls data on property, chemicals, space, etc that are assigned to the departing individual to help supervisors and support staff collect and/or reassign items before the person departs the Lab.
Automated Reporting
The report is dictated by the existing HR AskUs process. Whenever a notice of exit is processed by AskUS, the Individual Asset Status report is generated from the Data Warehouse on a 13, 6, day increment prior to the departure date and 5 working days post departure date to show supervisors what items are still open before and after the individual's departure date. The report is automatically emailed to supervisors and the CSDOps team from brsadmin@lbl.gov with the subject line "Individual Asset Status Report for an Exiting Individual".
Ad Hoc Reporting
Anyone can run a report for their staff members using the link below

Exit Process
This report does not replace the current Exit Checkout Sheet, but supports the process by providing an information push to help supervisors and designees know what items need to be addressed. Using the report is optional and any feedback you would like to provide is very much appreciated.

Performance Management Process (PMP)
Berkeley Lab’s annual Performance Management Process (PMP) begins on June 1 of each year. The Performance Management Process is a valuable opportunity for Lab employees and their supervisors to have discussions about the employee’s professional goals and how they relate to our broader Division goals. This is also time to reflect on the employee’s performance and development. The performance period under review is July 1 YY – June 30, YY+1. Previous Energy Sciences Area-wide PMP kickoff meeting slides are available for review.
HR offers training modules for employees and supervisors. The training schedule is currently available on the PMP Learning Module website. Newly hired employees and postdocs are highly encouraged to review the training modules before they start the PMP process.
Employees will receive an email from pmp-ch@lbl.gov on June 1 with a link to their self-assessment form and accompanying instructions for access and completion. An LDAP (LBNL id/password) must be used to access the PMP dashboard: pmp.lbl.gov
KEY NOTES
Mandatory Performance Review: The Division is required to complete performance reviews for 100% of all eligible employees and postdocs. Performance reviews are not required for GSRAs, LBNL Faculty Scientists, or individuals who were hired at LBNL after April 1 of the period under review.
Multiple Divisions: If you have employees based in multiple divisions, be sure to check each division’s tab on your pmp.lbl.gov homepage to locate all of your employee’s documents.
Performance ratings: To ensure that consistent factors are being used across the organization to evaluate employees, all performance reviews, with the exception of postdocs, must include an annual performance rating.
Performance and development conversations: To support supervisors and employees in drafting reviews and their performance conversations, HR offers live & recorded Learning Modules:
New Employee Orientation to Performance Management
Self Assessment Preparation
Supervisor’s Approach to Performance Management.
Performance Conversation Workshop for Supervisors
Digital signatures: In mid August employees will receive a notice that the PMPs are released for signatures. Completed reviews must be signed electronically by the employee/postdoc and the supervisor using HelloSign.
Reminder:
All PMP communications will be sent to your @lbl.gov address. Access the PMP website through VPN unless already signed into another Lab application using SSO.
